This is a new series form the photographer Grollier following his work of the peace accords in Northern Ireland. Ulster Protestants commemorate the victory of William of Orange over the last Irish King in 1690. These architectural constructions are part of a loyalist minority movement (in the face of Unionist) seeking to burn the symbols of Ireland on the anniversary of the original separation of Northern Ireland.

I would most certainly volunteer to be on top.

Airships above you, cars below ground; clean pedestrianised streets, beautiful elegant high-rise living… how exotic the far-off year of 1950 must have seemed to readers of Popular Science Monthly in 1925, when the infographic below was published. Rediscovered by the wonderful Retronaut (Slogan: “the past is a foreign country. This is your passport”) it probably says more about 1925 than it does about 1950.

A gelatin silver print photograph entitled ‘Contents of an Ostrich’s Stomach’, taken by Frederick William Bond, c. 1930.

Bond was Assistant Treasurer and photographer at the Zoological Society of London. Amongst more conventional photographs of the inhabitants of London Zoo, he also photographed objects retrieved from an ostrich’s stomach after its death. Details of what it swallowed are written on the back of the print, these included a lace handkerchief, a buttoned glove, a length of rope, a plain handkerchief, assorted copper coins, metal tacks, staples and hooks, and a four-inch nail.
